INTERIOR
This natural stone house dates back to 1530 and was brought back to life in 2019/2020 by the Danish-Spanish star architect duo Mar plus Ask. This former farmhouse is located on a plot of more than 4,000 square meters and today has 510 square meters of living area and other usable space that extends over 3 floors.
The floor plan includes 6 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, 3 living rooms, 1 TV room, kitchen, laundry room, storage room, guest toilet and elevator. Simply put: pure luxury! The kitchen's open format on the ground floor works cooperatively and functionally with the dining, living, TV room and, of course, the spacious terrace. On every floor there is floor heating as well as air condition. Each bedroom has its own bathroom and an individual, unmistakable note with special advantages, such as panoramic windows with a breathtaking view of the landscape and/or of the mountains. The 2nd or 3rd floor are orientated to the south, west, north or east which allows picturesque views from many windows. Everyone will find something to their taste here, privacy included.
In addition to the extremely well thought-out and spacious room layout, the design concept for the interior is of course striking and remarkable in its outstanding quality. Playing with natural stone walls - smooth plastered walls, original, almost uneven-looking floor slabs - finely punched, sharp-edged, flat stone slabs on the upper floors, fixtures made of bleached oak - red wooden ceiling beams, frameless glass elements, as well as glass windows with filigree metal frames. These are part of a subtle play with materials, surfaces, shapes and colors, whereby the cohesion is maintained by emphasizing and tactfully combining the similarities and commonalities. A skill for planning, design and implementation that is incomparable. With everything, of course, the climatic conditions on site were taken into account; learning from the old, remained the credo to do justice to the warmth and the humid, salty air.
The spiral staircase is another eye-catcher. The curved lines literally spiral upwards allowing a hypnotic visual to capture visitors. The perfect craftsmanship ensures this "wow" experience.
The way the light is directed inside through the glass elements is marvelous. A small patio with its large glazing ensures plenty of light on the ground floor without being overwhelming or letting in too much heat. On the upper floors, either several windows or panorama windows ensure brightness and spectacular views. The essential elements of "beautiful living" have been implemented precisely. A minimalist approach to furniture staging is highly recommended, as you almost have the feeling that a total work of art is being destroyed if altered too much. Truly a one-of-a-kind build.
EXTERIOR
This finca - originally a Spanish country house with a garden - is a real highlight for contemporary architecture of the year 2020!
Through a modestly dimensioned extension and a thorough renovation, the star architects Mar plus Ask have made this historic stone dwelling into an exclamation mark for successful, modern contemporary architecture. Even the outside space and creative garden design is nothing short of remarkable.
This holistic approach generates a beautiful juxtaposition of old and new, inside and outside, nature and man-made structures to fill the home with a harmonious balance. This symbiotic combination sparks the understanding that this structure has always been a timeless masterpiece. Nothing disturbs, everything is peaceful. The place, the region, the old building, the landscape all experience an extremely respectful interaction. References to tradition are vividly cultivated here and displayed in the general design of the building with the utmost attention to detail. Immerse yourself in the traditional craftsmanship that can be seen and experienced here. The cautious handling and preservation of the original architecture is beyond impressive. From the replastered natural stone walls representing an aesthetically pleasing contrast between old and new flaunt the usage of historic and modern. The protected outdoor spaces in which, among other things, the large, longitudinal pool (14x4m) was added. This captivating pool invites you to enjoy the sunshine with a swim or get lost in the magical display of light on the water.
The smooth, straight and angular elements are in deliberate contrast to the irregular structures of the natural stone masonry or the plants. This particular horticulture transition helps develop a relationship between the orchards and a variety of grasses here that are increasingly popular today.
The color concept is based on the muted yellow, orange, beige and brown tones of the natural stone. All to which reference is intentionally made when selecting the stone slabs, pool design and path paving or when choosing colors for the plaster frames, interior and exterior walls. Design planning and execution make the result incredibly unique in its ambiance. It seems to be built to withstand the weather of time just like the original building already existed. Extremely convincing contemporary architecture in the Mediterranean area with a respectful cultural flair and high-end taste!
The exclusivity presented by this plot is a plenty and has allowed for newly seeded orange, lemon, and olive trees to flourish among the other low maintenance plant life. The finca also comes with its own private water well for the garden, pool, and general use. With its massive deposit stored, this adds the element of being drought-proof to this already magical location.
LOCATION
Surrounded by the astonishing Tramuntana mountains, Can Gaspar is the perfect location for those who want both - owning a finca with an abundance of space and a large plot of land as well as enjoying the comforts of being in a lively and remarkable town such as Sóller. Can Gaspar fulfills the demands of a townhouse and a finca on the countryside as you literally can stroll into the city center in only a few minutes.
Sóller is one of the most well-known towns of Mallorca, and not without good reason as the location is just ideal. The Tramuntana borders one side and on the other is the Mediterranean sea. Both are just a short car drive away giving you access to two, very different, yet gorgeous destinations filled with nature.
Highlights in the area included the old town of Sóller with its Church of Sant Bartomeu. Make sure to peek in to admire the grand interiors, something anyone and everyone can appreciate. The lively square offers sweet little cafés, high-quality delis and if you look closely, some truly remarkable ancient architecture.
Port de Sóller with its harbor and beach is just a 6 minutes drive away. If you are feeling adventurous hop onto the old-style train that will teleport you straight into manorial ambiance.
For the gourmands, the area offers plenty of high-rated restaurants; from rustic home cooked local produce to high end Michelin star restaurants, it is safe to say one can enjoy any type of cuisine, any time. We suggest to start the evening with a sun-downer at Neni, afterwards enjoying a world-class dinner at El Olivo and finish the evening with a typical "Boc rojo de naranja“ (a Vermouth from Sóller) at hip Do de pit in Plaza de América. Get lost in the colors and history of Can Gaspar and surrender to its majesty.
